Our commitment to a greener future
At LOISIUM Hotels, we are setting a sporting pace towards sustainability. The expansion of renewable energies is a top priority for us and our goal is to become energy self-sufficient. A few years ago, we started generating our own electricity using photovoltaic systems in order to reduce the ecological footprint of our hotels. But that was just the beginning.
A summary of the most important points
- Close partnerships with winegrowers and businesses from the region
- Consistent waste separation, resource conservation and recycling/re-use
- Photovoltaic systems on the roofs of the businesses
- E-filling stations and travel by public transport possible
- Local heating from biomass in southern Styria
- Greening with natural flowers, herbs, vines and bees to promote biodiversity
We activate the sustainability turbo
For us, sustainability means making environmentally conscious decisions and minimizing our impact on the environment. We focus on energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy to reduce our energy consumption. We also pay attention to water conservation and efficient irrigation systems to ensure sustainable use.
We also focus on supporting the local economy and community. By mainly offering wines and products from the region, we support local winegrowers and producers, strengthen the regional value chain and contribute to the sustainability of the local economy. We value transparent supply chains and pay attention to the quality and origin of the products in order to offer our guests authentic and high-quality experiences.
We are massively expanding the area of our PV systems in Langenlois and southern Styria. We are using innovative PV panels that can be installed on a wide variety of roof shapes without detracting from the appearance of the buildings. We are also completely covering the parking spaces in front of our buildings with solar panels. This enables us to generate over 1000 MWh of electricity ourselves each year – the equivalent of the average annual consumption of more than 225 households. We are also working on a promising geothermal project in Langenlois, which will make us energy self-sufficient in the long term.
Sustainability is lived practice
At LOISIUM hotels, we not only rely on renewable energy, but also on sustainable practices in our daily operations. Our care and cosmetic products in the guest rooms come from Saint Charles Apothecary and are made from 100 percent pure natural products. In addition, we will be converting our shower heads and faucets to water-saving technology in all our hotels, which is expected to save up to 35 percent water. To reduce our (food) waste, we have switched the breakfast buffet to pre-portioning in reusable containers and no longer use plastic straws. We are also actively looking for alternatives to disposable plastic slippers and bath bags and are reducing our paper consumption through increasing digitalization. In all three hotels, we already source a good 80% of our food from regional suppliers and directly from producers in order to minimize transport routes and support the local economy. We have also installed an electric charging station in Langenlois for a total of six electric cars, which also generate their own electricity using photovoltaics.
Regionality and sustainability as part of our corporate philosophy
Overall, we are proud that all the electricity we purchase for our hotels in Langenlois and southern Styria comes from renewable energy sources. However, our efforts go far beyond electricity generation. We maintain close partnerships with regional businesses, focus on recycling and waste separation and invest in green initiatives such as e-charging stations and greening projects. Our employee guidelines encourage sustainable behavior and we are always looking for new ways to further reduce our environmental footprint.
