A per­fect com­bi­na­tion of the two, the South Styrian Wine Road offers hik­ing and jog­ging routes in idyl­lic land­scapes with won­der­ful views. Marked routes lead you through vine­yards, orchards, col­or­ful mixed forests and along rivers to Austria’s south­ern­most alpine pas­ture.

Nordic Walking Vinotour

That’s the name of the first inter­na­tional Nordic Walking Tour lead­ing through the wine coun­try on both sides of the bor­der between Styria and Slovenia.

Take the blue, green, red, orange, or yel­low route and enjoy a 10km to 25km hike, depend­ing on where you decide to start the trail. In spring and autumn, orga­nized hikes are avail­able on all five routes while the Königswanderung, the Valentinswanderung and the Jakobiwanderung offer unique vis­tas to all hik­ing enthu­si­asts.

Runner’s par­adise

With routes lead­ing over hills and down dales, run­ning through the vine­yards is a per­fect way to dis­cover the Styrian wine coun­try.

Wanderlust

Other than along the South Styrian Wine Road, there are many more hik­ing trails lead­ing through the Mur mead­ows, wet­lands and across alpine pas­tures.

Life is bet­ter in hik­ing boots. Luckily, there are more than a few high­lights to be dis­cov­ered in the hills around Ehrenhausen, Gamlitz, Ratsch a. d. Weinstraße and Leibnitz, such as the gorges of Altenbachklamm or Heiligengeistklamm with views of Slovenia. Pro tip: bring a back­pack with some snacks.
